![]() Museum Planes Flown: T-28, T-34, L-2 Bio: Cathy Read is currently the only female pilot who flies for the Indiana Aviation Museum, and can remember her first introduction to aviation as a young girl while traveling with her family on annual vacations. Their trips frequently included a stop at the impressive O'Hare International Airport. Cathy and her parents and siblings would go to the observation deck and watch the airliners land and takeoff. At a very young age, she felt those who were able to fly were very fortunate. As an adult, Cathy received her private pilot's license in 1996. She soon received her complex, high performance rating with DonnAir Aviation in Valparaiso, Indiana. In 1999, she began and finished training for her instrument rating with American Flyers in Dupage, Illinois. By 2001, she had received her commercial license from DonnAir Aviation and has currently accumulated over 1000 flight hours. Having completed formation training in the museum's T-34 Mentor and T-28 Trojan, Cathy is presently one of four women who hold a Letter Of Authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration to fly the high-powered T-28 Trojan. Cathy enjoys flying the T-28 annually with the large warbird formations at the EAA's Airventure in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and the Lakeland Air Show in Lakeland, Florida. Cathy also flies the museum aircraft at other air shows and special events throughout the year, and has had the opportunity the last three years to participate in formations during the opening ceremonies of the Blue Angels Jet Team Homecoming at Pensacola Naval Base in Pensacola, Florida. I hope that through the Indiana Aviation Museum I can instill in young girls and boys an appreciation and a growing interest in aviation. Our country's future is definitely looking bright and aviation will continue to be a growing, vibrant part of it. Send a message to Cathy. Please sign our Guest Book and add your comments. |
